Portuguese Sweet Bread Has Arrived in Brighton

Daniel’s Bakery has finally reopened under new management! The even better news is that the new owner is still using the recipes that made Daniel’s one of my favorite stops in Boston. I went inside the other day, just to check it out, but this implies a level of self-control I do not possess when surrounded by baked goods. Especially after I noticed the loaves of Portuguese Sweet Bread on the bread racks.

One of my favorite things about Daniel’s was their bread selection. A loaf of freshly baked white bread would cost $1 (prices may have changed with new ownership) and was just the chewiest, softest, yummiest bread outside of When Pigs Fly Bread. When making my four cheese baked macaroni I would always make a point to go to Daniel’s for a loaf of white bread to make perfect bread crumb topping.

Daniel’s new Portuguese Sweet Bread did not disappoint. I would say that it would give the infamous Nantucket Bake Shop something to work towards. The bread at Daniel’s was just wonderfully soft, sweet, and delicious. In fact the Portuguese Sweet Bread was so good that I dropped off the remainder of the loaf at work so I wouldn’t be tempted to devour it. I saved a couple pieces to toast at home with a little butter, cinnamon, and sugar. Let me just say it was heavenly, just heavenly…

There is no way this bakery with new owner stands up to what it used to be. The new owner has not a clue as to what she is doing right or wrong. Maybe half, of the items have remained the same. The rest will never stand up to the old owners taste. It is sad to see that the standards went out the door with the old owner.

I\’m sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience at Daniel\’s Bakery. I know the new owner introduced quite a few new items. However, I was told that the new owner adopted the recipes of the old owner and stayed on for a few weeks to train the new owner. I\’m hoping you just had a random, bad visit and that next time your visit will be better!
